The old St. Athanasios also known as "Stone Village". It is considered one of the most popular winter destinations, because it is the nearest village to the ski resort Kaimaktsalan.
It is built at an altitude of 1,200 meters on the beautiful slopes of Mount Vora in the late 16th century.Also old called Tsegani.
The inhabitants left the village in the mid of the 80s and created the new St. Athanasios, a few kilometers down the road, as the village was deemed unsafe geologically after earthquakes.
Tourism in the village mainly developed in 1995, when operated the ski resort Kaimamtsalan. Then the settlement characterized as traditional and one can admire the Macedonian architecture, the combination of stone and wood, stone streets, and the church of the Ascension, built in 1700.
The Village new St. Athanasios is built also in the traditional architecture of the area and has a stunning view of the lake Vegoritida. It is just 15 km from the ski resort. Tourism lasts almost all year, since apart from the winter activities offered and many others such as horse riding, archery, hiking, climbing, biking, boating lake Vegoritida flying humans in contact with nature.
